a story of how a vision took root and

the journey of bringing
Forever Flourishing into being—
A year where possibility, care,
and resource were extended to
6 Black single mothers.
These reflections honor both
the beauty of what was created and
the truths that remain about the

About FOREVER
FLOURISHING
Black single mothers
DESERVE to do
more than survive.
We named this ecosystem Forever Flourishing
not because one year alone
can secure a lifetime of ease, but because…
FLOURISHING is
the vision we hold for every
Black single mother.
We hope that with each cohort cycle, we are able to help our mothers and the larger community envision the possibility for more holistic and sustainable EXPERIENCES OF CARE.

Our goal was to create spaces of care, LOVE, and nurturance that could reach both Black single mothers and their children.
The compounded effects of the high cost of living, insufficient wages, solo caretaking, and undue scrutiny of Black single motherhood make it difficult for Black single mothers to create a life rooted in abundance.
We wondered, how can Black single mothers move from simply surviving, to thriving?

Forever Flourishing was an ecosystem of mutual support with a vision of radical possibility for our mothers TO THRIVE.
We called in people who are financially abundant, time abundant, or skills abundant to redistribute and share their resources by giving directly to this ecosystem.
It was economic justice in action.
It was love used as a verb,
made POWERFUL + transformative.

Black single mothersDESERVE more.
Black single mothers DESERVE more.
Black single mothers DESERVE more.
Black single mothers DESERVE more.
Black single mothers
DESERVE more.
That is the premise for this program
and EVERYTHING we do
at Loving Black Single Mothers.
I won’t recite all of the ways Black single mothers are neglected by our society because it’s not necessary, but I will say that historically Black single mothers have been disregarded in a myriad of ways, and our work as an organization has been to challenge that.
Being a Black single mother myself, I am deeply familiar with how difficult it is to survive, let alone flourish, in a culture that makes it so hard. Black women are devalued, motherhood is devalued, alternative mothering structures are devalued — and you put those things together and you get a perfect storm of harm.
My hope with creating Forever Flourishing was for it to be a soft place to be for a group of Black single moms. A space and time where they could put down some of their worries, be regarded, be witnessed in all of the ways, and dream a little.
I know a year can’t and won’t fix what years of systemic harm, domination, and isolation have caused…and that never was the goal.
The goal was to interrupt. To create a meaningful rupture in the cycle of constant survival. To offer a sustained experience of being resourced, not just with money, but with care, attention, and reverence.
Forever Flourishing was an experiment in what becomes possible when Black single mothers are trusted with what they need. No applications asking them to prove their pain. No strings. No hoops. Just a clear, steady yes: you matter, you deserve ease, and we’re standing with you.
What unfolded over the course of the year was powerful. It was tender. It was complicated. And it was real. In the sections ahead, you’ll see reflections from the mama’s who participated and the lessons we’re carrying forward.
This impact story is not just an account of what happened — it’s an invitation to anyone who has ever questioned what real support looks like. It’s a call to believe in what could happen if we took the conditions for flourishing seriously. Not just for some, but for all.
With Deep Gratitude & Solidarity,

Our
CARE Model
Our
CARE Model
Our
CARE Model
Our
CARE Model
Forever Flourishing supported just six Black single mothers in its inaugural year, and that was intentional.
In a world that often measures impact by scale, we chose DEPTH.
We are a small, grassroots organization committed to moving at the pace of care, not the pace of growth. We don’t believe that more always means better. What we believe in is deep, relational support— offered with integrity, attention, and the time it takes to hold people well. We wanted each mother to feel seen and tended to.
With our mothers at the center of our work, we offered seven amenities of care:

Digital
Connection
A members-only virtual gathering space for the cohort to foster connection and reduce isolation in the journey of motherhood.

Gathering
Monthly virtual cohort gatherings
to witness each other by sharing
their truths, grief, and celebrations.

Gifting
A quarterly gift from Loving Black Single Mothers to invite joy, softness, and delight to the mothers.

Liberatory Mental Health Services
Optional bi-weekly therapy sessions with a trusted practitioner of Mental Health Liberation.

One-On-One Support
Optional monthly one-on-ones with a trusted coordinator to process lived experiences, dream for their future, and just be as they are without judgment or pressure.

Wellness
Grant
A grant of $5,000 for wellness services of their choosing, inviting them to prioritize themselves on their own terms.

Thriving
Grant
$30,000 in non‑taxable, no‑strings‑attached, grants split into 12 monthly payments of $2500.

We are often asked why we chose to offer $2,500 A MONTH, especially when many guaranteed income or universal basic income programs offer between $500 and $1,000 per month. Our answer is simple:
We wanted to DO MORE than help mothers survive.

We wanted to offer enough to cover the real cost of living for everyday
needs like rent, utilities, food, and transportation, and leave space for SOMETHING MORE:
rest, JOY, exploration, planning, and DREAMING.

The lived experiences of our mothers are true. It is so important to remain connected to disrupting harmful narratives that influence our unconscious decisions (none of us are absent from this, no matter our social location).
Through a commitment to awakening — a lifelong journey — we create renewed relationships of safety that allow our mothers to be heard and taken seriously.

We aspire to be an ongoing source that mothers can tap into when they are able. This will require being highly adaptable to the schedules of the mothers, as time will look different for each. We keep communication and scheduling open, receptive, and understanding.

The Vision
Loving Black Single Mothers is a grassroots organization attempting to live into radical possibility.
To bring something like Forever Flourishing to life required strategy, FAITH, and collaboration.
For many of our donors, giving to Forever Flourishing was a practice of repair and reckoning. They acknowledged how wealth has been accumulated, who it has excluded, and what it means to be in true solidarity.

AN OVERVIEW OF
Our Cost of Care
Forever Flourishing was sustained through intentional investments in both people and care. Our costs totaled just under $400K, reflecting the direct financial support offered to mothers, the staff power to guide and hold the program, and the resources needed to evaluate and adapt in real time.
